Ms Christmas Uchiyama received her MSc in Sustainability at the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, where she focused on community ecosystem services valuation and mapping of perceived landscape values in the Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape, Philippines to determine local communities’ recognition of ecosystem services. Her research familiarized communities and local governments on the concept of nature’s contribution to human well-being and socio-ecological resilience. In her current job at the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), she manages projects under APN’s Capacity Development Programme and Collaborative Research for Early-Career Scientists Small Grants Programme, exposing her to a range of cross-cutting issues related to global change and sustainable development, and allowing her to utilize and strengthen her networking, science communication, and science-policy interfacing skills. In keeping with her keen interest in research, Ms Uchiyama conducts research and analysis at APN Secretariat, and is currently a PhD student in Agricultural Science (majoring in forest resources) at Kobe University, Japan
